When all the mushrooms have been harvested, the growing room is emptied, washed thoroughly and disinfected, in order to ensure optimum hygiene conditions for the new compost arriving on site. The whole growing cycle takes six weeks from start to finish. With 24 growing tunnels on site, we fill 4 tunnels every week to have continuous production of approximately 45 tonnes of mushrooms weekly. At the end of the cycle the spent mushroom compost is conveyed into grain trailers and taken to an Agricultural Contractor who incorporates the compost back into local farmland during soil cultivations. Unfortunately we no longer sell our spent mushroom compost to the public.
