|The first stage of cultivation
Our mushroom farm currently consists of 24 'growing tunnels'. Each growing tunnel is a hermetically sealed room with three rows of aluminium shelving, each containing three tiers of growing beds. A state of the art computerized environmental control system which is linked to an external weather station helps to maintain optimum growing conditions using the most energy efficient method available. The growing beds are filled with blocks of compost which are placed onto nets that are then winched along the shelves to minimize manual handling. The compost is then levelled using a machine, which rakes and rolls the surface until it is flat but not compressed.
